The black sedan used by the bank robbers hunting down the bikers is a 1972 Ford LTD. This particular LTD is the US/Canada model (probably a former consulate or embassy vehicle) converted to right-hand drive and has aftermarket U.S. Alloy 5-slot alloy rims.

there ya go car nerds, a reason to watch

I watched this a mere 256,782 times when I was a kid, and taped it, I think off HBO. I really wanted a Mongoose with blue tires.

Some good car spotting too, lots of period Oz and Japanese metal, and a RHD conversion 72 LTD plays a role.

Watch Turbo Kid. Its on Netflix. It’s relatively new, but made to look like an 80s BMX movie set in the future. Think BMX Bandits meets Mad Max. Impressively gory and surprisingly entertaining.

Mongoose? Nah. The cool kids rode Hutch. My best buddy had an all-chrome Expert. I was insanely jealous. We were poor so my bike was a salvaged BMX bike from the ‘60s which my mom lovingly rebuilt and repainted bright yellow to match our Opel wagon. I still have no idea what brand that bike was, but it was probably a Huffy.

Looking at the headline, I thought it was a Mitchell and Webb skit:

Rad!

Actually, I barely remember it. I was never the best rider, and by grade 5 or so, moved on to mountain bikes.

I have no memory of that brand, somehow. I remember Mongoose, GT/Dyno , Haro, and the more mass market brands.

My brother had a reclaimed GT like your bike, my dad found it somewhere, stripped and painted it, got a set of mag wheels for it (Skyway?), and put it together. My brother was as thrilled as could be. It later got stolen, and we reclaimed it, as I put his name on a hidden part of the frame. He later got a chrome Mongoose, which was also stolen.

I don’t recall the brand of my first BMX, it was yellow and blue, and bought at an auto parts store.
